Tree Facts
Here are some commonly asked questions and answers.
Are my trees worth money?
In south west Washington, the type of trees that have the most value are our evergreen trees (trees with needles), such as Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar. There are factors that affect the value of any individual tree, such as diameter, height, number of limbs, defects or diseases, and the specific species of the tree. The value is determined by the current timber market and the specific lumber mill willing to buy the trees from you. Blue Line Land Works specializes in estimating the value of your trees and marketing them to the appropriate mills, often multiple, on your behalf for the highest return.
Deciduous trees (trees with leaves), such as alder, maple, and cottonwood, have very limited value. Harvesting these types of trees for a profit usually comes down to a matter of quantity; the more you have, the more likely there will be value for you.
How much does logging cost?
Logging is typically bid by percentage. After the logs have been sold to the mill, the value is divided by the agreed-upon percentages and sent directly from the mill to the timber owner and the logger. Factors such as the estimated value of timber, location, road construction (if required), hazards, and the type of equipment needed are just some of the elements that factor into the cost. These factors can lead to bids ranging from 30% to more than 100%. Making it very difficult to bid logging over the phone or online. This is why Blue Line Land Works is happy to come out, look at your project, and provide a free estimate that includes the total estimated value and cost to log.
Are my trees healthy or dangerous?
This is a very complex question with a fairly simple answer. Any tree has the potential to be dangerous if it can reach people, structures, power lines or roads.
A perfectly healthy tree, under the right conditions—such as a storm—can break or blow over and cause damage. That being said, some things to look out for include visible damage, proximity to structures and people, other trees in the area with issues, high wind areas and loose or hanging branches.
Since a healthy tree can become a hazard at any time, Blue Line Land Works can not conclusively tell you a tree is safe, but we can help you identify potentially hazardous situations and provide solutions to remedy them. Blue Line Land Works provides hazardous tree removal.
